Reddit is the free focus group most brands ignore

Your customers are already describing their problems, in their own words, in public. Here's how we mine threads for messaging, content and product ideas.

Every marketer wants to know what customers really think. Most pay for surveys and focus groups to find out. Meanwhile, thousands of people are posting unfiltered opinions about your industry on Reddit every day, for free.

Why Reddit beats a survey

People don't perform on Reddit the way they do on LinkedIn or Instagram. They complain, compare, ask "is this a scam?" and recommend what actually worked. That's raw material you can't buy.

Your customers are already writing your ad copy. You just have to read it.

How we use it

1. Find the rooms. Search your product category, your city and your competitors' names. Note which communities come up again and again.

2. Collect the exact words. Copy the phrases people use to describe their problem. If they say "my driveway is crumbling," your page shouldn't say "asphalt surface degradation."

3. Sort by pain. Group posts into themes: price worries, trust issues, confusion, bad past experiences. Each theme is a page, an email or an ad angle.

4. Spot the gaps. Questions that get lots of upvotes but bad answers are content opportunities. Write the answer nobody else did.

5. Listen for the next thing. New tools, new complaints and new habits show up in threads months before they show up in industry reports.

The rules

Don't spam. Don't fake reviews. If you participate, do it as yourself, add real value and follow each community's rules. Reddit users can smell marketing from a mile away, and they'll tell everyone.

Why this blog exists

That listening habit is exactly how we'll run The Signal. We read the threads, listen to the podcasts and track the releases, then translate what matters into plain English for people running real businesses.
